Too often we see gun offenders arrested over the weekend, only to be back on the streets by Monday afternoon.
When I was in Afghanistan, I experienced the trauma of being fired upon. I know what these weapons of war are capable of, so I won’t just talk about our gun crime epidemic here at home. As State’s Attorney, I will actually take on the gun lobby and the criminal networks that flood our streets with illegal weapons.
Working in our communities and with our neighboring counties and states, we can make our neighborhoods safer by tracking and shutting down the supply chains that bring illegal firearms into Cook County, and by going after the gangs profiting from the sales of these guns. And while we shouldn’t be locking up nonviolent people, if someone commits a crime with a gun, they should stay in jail.
